About

Engineering leadership, architecture, and operating-model judgement for the AI era.

My work sits between engineering leadership, product execution, architecture judgement, organisational design, and the practical adoption of AI in software delivery.

Experience

From software engineering to executive and advisory work.

I started in software engineering in 1996 and have worked as a developer, architect, CTO, VP Engineering, Head of Engineering, CPTO, consultant, trainer, and facilitator.

That path shaped how I see transformation. Delivery problems rarely belong to one function. They cross strategy, product intent, organisation design, architecture, technical capability, governance, and leadership behaviour.

Agile and Lean shaped my roots. My current work applies those principles without treating a framework as the answer.

Current focus

Helping established engineering organisations adapt their delivery system to AI.

Engineering operating models

I work more broadly with scale-ups and product organisations when strategy-to-execution flow, ownership, architecture, leadership structure, or decision rights no longer fit the next stage.

For selected organisations, this can include targeted consulting, ongoing executive advisory, or an advisory-board role.

How I work

Independent judgement before a predetermined solution.

  • Start with evidence and the system, not a preferred framework.
  • Translate technical change into leadership and operating-model decisions.
  • Make trade-offs, ownership, and required evidence explicit.
  • Use workshops and diagnostics as interventions, not theatre.
  • Stay close enough to implementation to learn what the model missed.

I do not sell an AI platform, outsourced development capacity, or universal productivity promises.

Workshop practice

Licensed to facilitate “Slicing the Problem, Growing the Solution.”

I am licensed by Alistair Cockburn to run the workshop, which helps groups turn large, vague problems into smaller slices that can be demonstrated, learned from, and grown safely.
